VVUHSD board, Daily Press honor Rodriguez as Student of the Month

Hook Junior High seventh-grader Roberto Rodriguez was named the first district-wide Student of the Month for the 2016-17 school year, and he was recently honored by the VVUHSD Board of Trustees and the Daily Press.

Hook Principal Carlos Cerna and the board honored Rodriguez at the most recent board meeting. In addition to being featured in the Oct. 5 VVUHSD Newsletter, Rodriguez was also chosen by the Daily Press as one of the regional students of the month for October. The Daily Press award honors standout students from across the High Desert at three levels (elementary, middle and high school).

Rodriguez's AVID teacher Erica Moeller, who was present at the board meeting, said Rodriguez "consistently blows me away by how truly kind he is."

"Not only is he a great student, but he takes the time out to give a high-five to someone that is down or help someone that isn’t understanding something," Moeller said. "He truly embodies the idea of being HOOKED up!"

The district-wide Student of the Month award was started last school year. School site administrators submit nominations with input from their staff, and the monthly winner is chosen by the superintendent's office. If you would like to nominate a student for this award, contact your site principal.
